Optimization Suggestions for Metadata Handling

    Background:
Here’s the situation: about two months ago, I switched from Adobe Lightroom to Capture One. I noticed that JPEG photos taken with my camera, when viewed in the iPhone Photos app, display strange information. In the “Lens” field, the app shows a string like “-- mm f/--.” — something I had never seen before and that makes little sense.

After a closer inspection and comparison, I discovered that all of these photos had been processed in Capture One and then sent to my iPhone via AirDrop. Upon further investigation, I found that when I process RAW images in Capture One, the “Vendor Specific” → “Lens” field in the Metadata panel correctly displays “RICOH GR IIIx” or “RICOH GR III.” However, when processing JPEGs shot with the GR III/IIIx, because the JPEG EXIF “Lens” field is empty, Capture One fills it with “-- mm f/--.”

    Optimization Suggestions:
The RICOH GR series is currently a very popular camera line, with a growing user base. Later this year, the highly anticipated GR IV will also be released. I hope the Capture One team can strengthen support for the GR series.

Regarding metadata handling and display, I hope Capture One can correctly recognize or map the EXIF fields for both RAW and JPEG files. If a certain field truly cannot be identified, it would be better to retain the camera’s original handling. For example, in the “Lens” field mentioned above: if a JPEG does not contain enough information to determine the lens model, and the original value is empty, I hope Capture One can keep it empty instead of replacing it with “-- mm f/--.” This is because such placeholder text can look odd in certain devices and software. For instance, in the iPhone Photos app, if the value is empty, the app can use its own logic to describe it, rather than showing a potentially confusing string.
