Tether from iPhone to iPad wirelessly

Which device are you using?

iPhone 14 Pro / 15 Pro to iPad with M1 - M2

What problem do you see this solving?

Would like to be able to shoot on iPhone and wireless tether to iPad! I looked and see it for all major cameras but not from Apple to Apple : ). This would allow for a much larger screen and colab

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Was recently on a trip in the Bahamas and due to the weather and circumstances I used iPhone for some shots during a workout session in a rugged part of the island... would of been great I thought to myself... if I had the ability to show the images on the screen of myiPad to the group instead of trying to huddle around an iPhone ... this would of been much better. Sure I could of air dropped images... or something..

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals?

This is so we have a greater understanding of how your workflow is affected, and how we can improve the existing tools and functionality.

Related: implement a shutter release (and/or possibly mirrored live view) on an Apple Watch over WiFi to C1 iPad.

Use case: two words: light painting. (Or being a perfectly good backup/replacement anywhere you'd use a cable/remote release).

Leave iPad + Phase back or other camera tethered on a tripod, go walk into your scene holding your lighting tool of choice. Click the shutter release on your Apple Watch; fires off shutter release on tethered iPad. Send low-res preview image over to Apple Watch when done so you have a reasonable idea of what you got.

Thanks 370116679418! I am tagging my colleague 1901072955773 who is investigating a short of replacement or improvement on pilot and it feels related to your request. I found both yours and Serge's very interesting, thanks for sharing!

368468144878 I checked with the team and it's something we could do pretty easily it's just a matter of prioritising the work. Until then, have you tried connecting your iPhone to the iPad via cable ? If so (and same applies with our in app camera functionality on iPhone) you can experience our new profiles for ProRAW images. Let me share a few words with you about  what's happening behind the scenes.

Our team working on colour and camera support, created this profile during the summer. The results actually surprised our senior principal engineer as well, who has 30 years of experience in this field.

And actually he was the one who made them, so he surprised himself how good these are...

Please let me know if you have a chance to test them out.

Thanks a lot for being an active part of our community.

So we didn't expect such good results, and now we are planning how to build on them going forward.

I'd argue for the reverse, actually! Control C1 iPad from an iPhone. Why not make any mobile C1 remotely controllable from any other mobile C1?

    Use case:

I've had situations where I've had a camera wired tethered to an iPad, and would love to fire it either from a phone or, better still, an Apple Watch; and see the result without having to switch storage devices or risk jostling the camera. I end up doing a lot of light painting/long exposure work--and of course, in doing interiors work, you often end up working in front of the camera moving furniture, and if you're tethered to an iPad, firing from a phone makes it way more convenient since you don't have to untether. Gives you most of the benefits of wireless tethering without the glacially slow speed (and would be a good way to make C1 mobile a more capable replacement for a CamRanger in architecture/high-end real estate workflows).

Hi there!  I could definitely see using this when scouting out a location prior to a shoot to put together shot ideas, especially when collaborating on the road or in locations not familiar with.  I would be curious too to see how some apple features within the iPhone would contribute to possibly sharing images into one common session could work.-  kinda like a Pinterest board.  As far as shoots themselves, I usually use a camera, however being able to use an iPhone this way would be something to look at exploring.

Hey 368468144878! Quite an interesting case you have here :) How often do you think you would use it if this was available? Are there any other cases where you would expect people shooting from the iPhone straight into iPad?

Thanks a lot for the feedback!
