In PS you can customise the surrounding workspace colour so that you are viewing the image against say a 75% grey thus providing a more realistic rendition of the image for editing. In C1 whilst you can change the immediate border around the image, the tools, browser etc. are still black.

Current workaround
Using the F and X keys to temporarily hide the top toolbar and place a border around the image. |
