Support for BigTIFF and PSB file formats

With Adobe's recent introduction of support for saving TIFF files larger than 4GB as BigTIFF, it's time for developers to take Capture One’s compatibility with this format—as well as PSB—more seriously. My primary work involves high-resolution multi-shot flat art reproductions and conservation documentation, where seamless handling of gigapixel files is essential. Even exceeding the TIFF format size limitation by just a few megabytes forces the use of other software, breaking the workflow chain and adding unnecessary complexity. This issue is even more pronounced in cultural heritage imaging, where TIFF files serve as digital preservation objects and cannot be saved with any compression. While I’m not requesting full editing capabilities for these files, having the ability to preview them at full resolution (within Capture One’s engine limitations, of course) and edit their metadata would significantly improve the workflow for photographers and specialists in cultural heritage documentation, art reproduction, and other fields requiring high-resolution output. Consolidating capture, final stitch preview, metadata management, and asset organization within a single software ecosystem would be a game-changer.

Current workaround

Due to Capture One’s limitations, I can only use it for image capture, while all other steps in my workflow must be handled with different software. Unfortunately, this fragmentation reduces efficiency and adds unnecessary complexity. Additionally, I’m forced to split images into separate tiles for archiving purposes, a process done through Capture One and AppleScript, further complicating the workflow and increasing the time required for proper file management.
