Remote Focus Stacking Control for Phase One Cameras in Capture One

As a professional photographer using Phase One systems, I frequently shoot tethered in Capture One and rely on focus stacking for precise product and still life photography.

Currently, enabling focus stacking requires physical access to the camera to activate the mode and manually set the "Far" and "Near" focus points. This becomes inconvenient — and sometimes impractical — when the camera is mounted high, such as 2 meters above ground on a studio stand.

I suggest implementing a dedicated Focus Stacking panel within Capture One for Phase One cameras, allowing users to:

  • Enable focus stacking remotely

  • Set the "Far" and "Near" focus points via live view or lens control

  • Launch the stack sequence from within the software (we can do this after doing manually the first two steps)

This feature would greatly improve workflow efficiency and usability for high-end studio photographers.

"PS: I would really appreciate a reply this time, as my previous suggestion was closed without any response."

Current workaround

The only workaround currently is to climb up to the camera manually to activate focus stacking and define the focus range. This interrupts the workflow, especially during complex or elevated setups, and introduces unnecessary delays and physical effort.

Hi Cesar, thank you for your feedback.

Sorry about missing your previous request, as you may have noticed the forums are now completely closed for participation, so it wasn't specific to your post.

Regarding focus stacking, it is unlikely that we work on it in the foreseeable future. We feel really confident recommending using Helicon Focus for this kind of work: they have been doing this for years and do this far better than we could.
