Request a new feature, or support for a camera/lens that you would like to use in Capture One.
I absolutely love the new Face Retouch feature—it's fast, natural-looking, and already a game changer in my workflow. That said, I’ve run into a few limitations that I hope can be addressed as the feature matures.
Right now, the tool seems to "live in its own world" and doesn’t support layers or masking. This becomes tricky in situations where I’d like to selectively exclude certain areas from being retouched. For example, with male models, the tool often softens the beard—which I’d actually prefer to keep untouched. Similarly, one of my female models has a well-known birthmark, and even at low settings, the AI seemed to "fix" it. I ended up combining two variants in Photoshop just to bring it back.
A solution might be allowing the tool to work on layers, so we can manually mask out protected areas. But if that’s not feasible, a dedicated Protection Brush (or maybe "Keep Texture Brush"?) would go a long way. Something that lets us flag permanent features—scars, birthmarks, freckles—that should be preserved while still cleaning up temporary blemishes like spots or uneven texture.
I realize this might be challenging, especially during tethered capture where retouching is applied live. Maybe there’s room for the tool to adapt the protected area based on facial orientation, or alternatively, separate sliders for "temporary blemishes" vs. "permanent marks" could help fine-tune the effect.
Thanks a lot!
Current workaround
At the moment, my only workaround is to clone a variant when done with my CO edits, take both to Photoshop, and merge those permanent "imperfections" back in. |
We're working on it :)
One limitation though, this will allow you to protect some areas from the blemish removal tool but it will only work on one image at a time. The correction will not be tracked and applied in a batch scenario or while tethering.
