Modular Dual-Panel Layout for Greater Workflow Flexibility

As a long-time Capture One user and photography enthusiast, I appreciate the modularity and customizability the software offers. However, I often feel restricted by the current layout limitations—specifically, the separation between the Browser and tool tabs, and the lack of flexibility in arranging tools across the interface.

I would love to see a feature where both the left and right panels (or "tool areas") are fully customizable with any tools, including the Browser. For example, I’d like to group all file and asset management tools (Browser, Filters, Export, Metadata) on one side, and all image adjustment tools (Exposure, Color, HDR, Layers, etc.) on the other.

Even more powerful would be the ability to open two separate Browser views—each with its own filter settings. This would allow me to work with PSDs on one side and RAW files on the other, or compare selects across filtered sets without having to constantly toggle back and forth.

Lastly, I often wish I could keep Metadata permanently open on one side while editing on the other—without having to switch tabs. A fully modular dual-panel layout would make this possible and bring Capture One’s workflow flexibility to a new level.

Thank you

Hi Philippe, thanks for the suggestion!

While I don't have workarounds for all the points you make, I wanted to mention that you could create a floating tool for metadata. Floating tools live outside of the tool tabs and can be placed anywhere you like, even outside of the main window. Typically some users put floating tools on a secondary screen, or if they only have one, a popular thing to do is to reduce the horizontal width of the main Capture One window and to create a column of floating tools on the side that was freed by this.

More about floating tools here: https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003159377-How-do-I-add-a-floating-tool
