Parent Layer and Child Layers functionality Merged

Greetings & Salutations,

A year ago, here in the Improve Capture One Pro thread, there was a post regarding to increase the current limit of layers to a more reasonable number. Now I am following with that request and adding addition feature for layers in my own request. the ability to have sub groups, sub layers, Parent/Children, or nested layers whichever the correct terminology is these days.

I am more convinced than ever that an upgrade should be done as soon as possible for layers before any more major tools are released. In fact, as one of the many crying out loud for the improved noise reduction tool, With all the new tools in the last 2 years, the call for this does warrant itself in keeping the creativity process organized in this wonderful software.

He is my thinking and examples:

C1 has a button that says, “Group Layer” or “Normal Layer”. I hit the Group Layer button then CI asks me for the group name. And then I generate my individual layers which are the child layers.

Group Layer - Sky

• Deep Sky (no color grading) - my style brush adjusted from deep sky

• Color Grading for Deep Sky – my style brush

• Orange Glow for Sunrise/Sunset

The People Tab in Layers

When the Seprate Mask is checked off, then C1 will generate the appropriate Child masks under the Parent name of the new people layer.

The creativity impact will be each one of those sub layers will have their own opacity level.

There is some serious programming involved for this. UI adjustments will have to be made for displaying the layers correctly. In addition, the ability for C1 to “Set As A New Layer” to have a directional path if grouping occurs. Hence, I understand the amount of work that Capture One will be undertaking, however, this will be very valuable to the user base.
