Feature Suggestion: AI Object Masking for Overlay during Tethering

I have an important question and feature suggestion.

We are an agency with over 30 years of experience in catalogue photography. For our new subbrand GOLUCKY, we’ve developed an AI-driven workflow for fashion imagery. Initially, we hoped to use Capture One as part of this process – but unfortunately, we had to develop our own solution due to a missing feature that would make a huge difference not just for us, but for many in the industry.

So here’s my suggestion:

Please implement AI-powered automatic object masking (like you already have in the masking tool) directly into the Overlay feature during tethering.

Our process: We shoot precisely lit people in the studio and later merge them into AI-generated environments (matching our light). To speed up our workflow, we’ve built a live preview tool that imports the camera JPG, automatically masks the person, composites it into the AI background, and generates a new JPG in real time – all within milliseconds. These quick previews allow our clients to select their favorite images during the shoot.

It’s essentially a real-time, lightweight retouch pipeline. If Capture One could integrate automatic object masking into the Overlay layer during tethering, it would revolutionize the way AI-enhanced workflows are handled – not just for us, but for studios worldwide who are increasingly blending photography with generative tools.
