My workspace has my tools where I want them.
When I drag a Tool out of the Tools area onto the image area, I have to drag it back manaully which is clunky, fiddly and difficult on a laptop or hires screen
How about a right click option to return this to default location.

Excellent suggestion.
If C1 can keep track of the order in which the user opens and closes tools in a tool tab, C1 should be able to have a one-click solution to return a floating tool to its proper tool tab. If a user customizes his/her tool tabs in a long list of tools, returning the floating tool can take a long time and lead to mistakes.
The suggested solution is a right click. or it could be an x that the user simply clicks on to close the floating tool.
