When managing Keywords in a catalog I have a defined set of keywords that rarely change (occasionally adding a new one), but the vast majority of use is assigning keywords to new images with the rare editing of the Keywords list. Accidentally dragging a keyword can cause issues with a large library. Additionally it appears using CTRL-Z to undo the move leaves duplicate keywords (I filed a bug #299754 for this)
To prevent this, it would be nice if the keyword structure in a catalog could be locked to prevent accidental changes.
Other alternatives that would be acceptable split the Keyword Library in two tool panels Keyword Library Assignment and Keyword Library Management where the Assignment panel would be read only.

Current workaround
Manually re-add re-edit keywords and reassign manually to the entire library. Very time consuming and painful. Backups are not ideal as they are not granular enough in a normal workflow as a typical workflow would be import/select, make initial edits, assign keywords. If you make an accidental change keyword structure then your restore point is before the import/select/edit and you are still losing a good bit of work if restoring a catalog backup. If it was easier to partially restore a catalog (select folders to restore, etc) that could be acceptable, but seems like a bigger task than locking the keyword tree. |
There's still the need to lock the Keywords but the little x to the right is apparently not what deleted a keyword for me. I think it may have had to do with rearranging with drag and drop. I will work on repro steps and add a separate issue for that problem.
