Manual Face and License Plate Blur Tool for Editorial and Reportage Workflows

In editorial and reportage photography, it is often necessary to anonymise faces or vehicle license plates for legal or editorial reasons. This needs to be done quickly, reliably and with full control over the result.

Why this would get broad support

  • Relevant for press, editorial and event photography

  • Manual control is often required

  • Improves efficiency without adding complexity

Capture One already provides excellent tools for image development, masking and adjustments. However, there is currently no dedicated way to apply a true blur (such as a Gaussian blur) directly within Capture One for anonymisation purposes.

As a result, photographers often need to switch to another application just for this single step, then return to Capture One for final adjustments and export. This interrupts the workflow and slows down time critical deliveries.

This request is not about AI or automation. A manual solution would be sufficient and preferred.

A native blur option would:

  • Keep the entire workflow inside Capture One

  • Save time in fast paced editing situations

  • Provide full control and accuracy

  • Reduce the need for external editors

Current workaround

The current workaround is to export images from Capture One, apply face or license plate blurring in another application, and then reimport the files back into Capture One for final cropping and export.

While this works, it adds unnecessary steps and breaks an otherwise efficient and streamlined workflow.

A manual blur tool would ideally:

  • Work with existing masks (Brush, AI Brush, Radial or Linear masks)

  • Offer adjustable blur strength

  • Be reusable via Styles or presets

This would allow photographers to stay fully inside Capture One, especially in fast paced editorial workflows.
