Selective masking in "Enhanced Denoise Tool"

In my experience, the new Enhanced Denoise Tool works very cleanly, subtly and very well. The degree of noise reduction is easy to control, and I haven’t noticed any over-sharpening, as I sometimes see with DxO, for example, even at the lowest setting. I’m really happy about that!

What I do miss, however, is the option to select the areas to be denoised using, for example, masks. It often happens that some areas need to be denoised, but others do not. Very dark areas are often very noisy, light areas not. Global denoising sometimes works too strongly in some areas and too weakly in others.

Furthermore, I could certainly imagine selective sharpening. In general, I think it’s very good that sharpening isn’t included in the denoising process, but there are still images that become too soft as a result of denoising, where sharpening would be useful. Whether sharpening is integrated into the denoising tool or a new, selectively applicable AI sharpening feature is developed remains to be seen.
