Simple Cross device workflow by using Catalogs and Sessions together?

I am sure many ideas of this kind already exist. But I think I have an Idea that enables a quite good cross device workflow using things that are already there Catalogs and Sessions.

Thinking of the desktop as the main device. There you have your catalog with a pretty standard workflow. Nothing new there. But now, when you want to edit photos on mobile devices (or even capture a session tethered) you can easily do that with a session.

Now for the feature request: It would be really neat if Capture One desktop could import and integrate a Session into the Catalog (import the „mobile“ work). This way you could take your work from travelling or a shooting session and integrate it with the rest of your catalog.

The other way around: It would be great if Capture One desktop could not only export a sub-catalog from the current catalog/album/etc. but also to export a session from the catalog/album/etc. The session would self contain all the fotos you want to continue to work on mobile. It will be easy to handle and very protable.
Tricky will be potentially the part, where you want to „reintegrate“ such a session back to your catalog.

Best part: No cloud infrastructure needed, which will be a standalone feature for Capture One with a cross device workflow. All other services require you to use their cloud with limited storage.

Current workaround

One way: Mobile to Desktop. Not able to take parts of your work to edit on mobile.

Hi there, thanks a lot for the suggestion!

This is a great idea and indeed a bit cumbersome to do today. I can offer some workarounds though:

    • the best way to get "portable" files across sessions and catalogs is to export "EIP" files. They are a package around each image that contains all the edits you have made for them, so you can then re-import them in any catalog or session with the work you have already started. Limitation: you can currently export EIPs from the mobile app, but you cannot import EIPs in the mobile app

    • another suggestion regarding "export a sub-catalog from the current catalog": this is already possible, if you right click on an album, you have the option to export it as a catalog. You also have the option of importing a catalog into another catalog. Again, both of those options are desktop only, but that means you can break down your catalogs while on desktop and then just transfer the sub-set to mobile, work on mobile, then transfer back and re-import into the desktop
