Specialized negative conversion for black and white

I had a talk with Victor in the helpcenter about the special needs for black and white film.

So I would request to bring some recommendations for the workflow for black and white film with the existing conversion tool, because there are other priorities and needs for white balance, levels and so on.

In a further step maybe there could be two different basic settings for colour and black and white film, because for me the linear curve and no HDR-tools bring a too flat starting point and limitations in producing pictues with a good and detailled contrast.

Current workaround
  • Digitizing black and white film with a Z6ii in RAW and valoi 360

  • setting the exposure so, that the filmborder is not clipping

  • measured white balance from the light source

  • import to C1

  • no changes in white balance

  • no change to linear curve

  • set as black and white picture

  • setting for separated channels for R, G, B and clipping levels 0,02

  • cut the filmborder

  • flip the curve

  • auto correct the levels

  • so I get a well devloped contrasty starting point for my work

  • and then some manual work on HDR and brightness, maybe local corrections
