Crop-Anchored Overlays

The problem

Currently, the Overlay appears to be anchored to the image rather than to the crop frame.

This means that when I change the crop — for example by moving the crop vertically or changing the image scale — the relationship between the overlay and the visible crop changes.

For a workflow where many images need to be aligned consistently, this makes the overlay difficult to use as a fixed composition guide.

Requested feature

I would like an option to anchor an Overlay to the Crop Frame instead of the underlying image.

In other words:

Overlay coordinates should be relative to the current crop area, not relative to the original image.

For example, if I create a 4:5 crop and load a 4:5 overlay:

  • the overlay should always fill exactly the current crop area

  • the overlay should remain fixed relative to the crop frame

  • moving the crop vertically or horizontally should not move the overlay

  • changing the image scale should not change the overlay's relationship to the crop frame

  • changing the crop position should only change which part of the photograph is visible underneath the fixed overlay

  • the overlay should automatically scale with the crop frame

Current workaround

I often need to align a specific feature of multiple photographs to the exact same position. For example, I photograph a series of products where one edge of the product runs diagonally through the frame.

Currently I align the overlay with the vertical adjustment and the adjust the crop accordingly.
