Please add the ability to predictably organize, sort, and/or manually arrange saved Session Templates in Capture One.
As users build larger libraries of reusable Session Templates, it becomes increasingly difficult to locate the appropriate template when the templates are not displayed in a predictable order.
For example, I maintain a growing library of related templates organized by category. One such category is recurring commercial photography workflows, with each template containing a different number of pre-created shot folders:
01 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-01
02 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-05
03 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-10
04 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-15
05 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-20
06 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-25
07 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-30
08 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-40
09 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-50
10 Commercial Template — SHOT 01-60
Despite being created sequentially and given numerical prefixes, they did not subsequently appear in numerical order and, in some cases, were interspersed among previously created templates in the list.
The descriptive names are intentionally meaningful because they tell me immediately what each template contains and which version is appropriate for a particular job. I also experimented with different letter prefixes and creation sequences, but these approaches likewise did not produce a predictable ordering.
Session Templates therefore do not appear to follow alphabetical, numerical, or creation-date ordering, making it difficult to organize and locate templates as the library grows.
Capture One Support confirmed that there is currently no supported user-accessible way to sort or reorder the Session Templates list.
Ideally, Capture One could provide one or more of the following:
Alphabetical sorting based on template name.
Numerical sorting that recognizes numerical prefixes naturally.
Manual/custom ordering, allowing users to drag templates into their preferred order.
Possibly a sort option such as Name A–Z, Name Z–A, Date Created, Date Modified, or Custom.
Even simple alphabetical or numerical sorting would make a significant difference. A custom ordering option would provide the greatest flexibility for users with larger or specialized template libraries.
This would be particularly valuable for photographers, digital techs, studios, and other users who maintain numerous customized Session Templates for recurring workflows.
The ability to create and save detailed Session Templates is extremely useful. Adding predictable organization to the template library would make that functionality considerably easier to use as the number of templates grows.
I contacted Capture One Support about this issue and received confirmation that user-controlled Session Template ordering is not currently supported.
