Allow Flyaway Hair Removal Without Face Detection

I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer, and I recently tested the new AI-powered flyaway hair removal feature.

This is a genuinely useful addition to Capture One. It has the potential to significantly reduce the time spent manually removing stray hairs in Photoshop.

However, I've noticed an important limitation: the feature becomes unavailable when Capture One cannot detect a face.

For example, when photographing a bride or a subject from behind, the hair is clearly visible and could benefit from automatic cleanup, but the tool cannot be used because no face is detected.

This limitation also affects certain side-profile compositions and other situations where the face is partially or completely hidden.

My suggestion:

• Make flyaway hair removal independent of face detection.

• Allow automatic hair detection even when the subject is photographed from behind.

• Ideally, provide a manual option to select or refine the hair area when automatic detection fails.

For wedding and portrait photographers, this would make the feature considerably more versatile and useful in everyday professional workflows.

The technology is promising. Giving photographers more control over where it can be applied would make it even more valuable.
