Request a new feature, or support for a camera/lens that you would like to use in Capture One.
What problem do you see this solving?
Sometimes lens distortion correction is not completed by the camera or during raw processing for various reasons. Capture One only currently allows distortion correction to raw files, not TIFF or JPEG files. I would request that the distortion profiles for any available lens can be applied to TIFF files also. If there are technical reasons why this is the case, then even a close approximation would usually suffice. Having to correct missing distortion correction in Photoshop after the face is not helpful or easy.
In some cases I did not apply distortion correction to raw files because I was using adapted lenses where the metadata did not pass through, however the lens profile for that particular lens is available in Capture One. Or at the time of processing the raw file, I may not have known what the correct lens profile was and the jpeg/tiff files were created without the distortion correction. It would be desirable to then apply the correct distortion correction later to the Tiff or JPEG file.
I make art reproductions of 2D artwork where distortion correction is important, even on TIFF or JPEG files at times.
Even a set of generic corrections that could be manually adjusted in strength would be better than restricting them all together.
Another use case is just for creativity, the ability to select distortion profiles would be handy.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Usually when making art reproductions where the distortion correction wasn't applied to the raw file, but I have come across it in other scenario's, such as when editing panorama's which can be distorted in all kinds of ways.
Current workaround
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One? Photoshop, but that's far from ideal. |
I didn't find this topic when searching so I've also created one here: https://captureone.ideas.aha.io/ideas/FR-I-1484
Yes, I hadn't thought of negatives. Even if Capture One didn't have a profile for the same lens that made the negative, I'm sure there would be something close.

Another use case is distortion correction from scanned or photographed negatives.
For scanned negatives (tiff, jpg) you could correct for distortion of the lens used to create the negative.
For digitalized negatives using a digital camera, you would first correct for distortion of the raw file and then do the second correction (for the lens used to create the negative) on the exported file.
