Request a new feature, or support for a camera/lens that you would like to use in Capture One.
What problem do you see this solving?
Currently when you crop an image you have an option for the viewer: either see the original image with the cropped out parts darkened out, or see only the cropped portion. There is no similar options for thumbnails, which are rendered always in full with the cropped out parts darkened.
This is a problem because, if you work with relatively small thumbnails, contents in photos that are heavily cropped cannot be easily quickly spotted and recognized.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Always and this affects a good 20% of my photos.
Current workaround
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One? The workaround is to select the involved thumbnails and let the related photos appear in the viewer, but this slows down the management process. |
Personally, this is one of the first things that didn't make sense to me as a longtime lightroom user. The lightroom classic behaviour is to render the cropped thumbnail and add a little badge to indicate it's been cropped. So the people in here saying it's useful to know it's cropped would be taken care of. The thumbnails show all the other current adjustments of the image, why not properly represent the result crop beyond a slightly darkened frame? There's so many other display options in the application I'm surprised this has been left out. If I've cropped it, I have seen the whole image already and no longer want to see the parts I cropped out anymore. By all means, I'm sure someone finds this default behaviour useful, but it feels like not giving the option is a missed opertunity for further being able to make this already very flexible application work best for everyone
This is a minor annoyance for me, but an annoyance that comes up very often.
How popular this idea is, I don't know. Most of the contributions to threads about this are from users who'd prefer it. I have to say I wouldn't, so if they do bring this in I hope it's an option only.

Correct, Walter. I would propose two changes....
1. a toggle at the top of the thumbnail window to A: show the entire thumbnail frame OR B: show the cropped version.
2. Separate the opacity setting for the crop on the preview window and the crop on the thumbnail. it can be hard to see the crops on the thumbnails when the crop tool opacity is set to a low number (see the third image below)
Sorry for terrible photos..
Simulation of cropped thumbnails...
High opacity setting, easy to see the thumbnails, but not ideal for working on cropping the photo...
Low opacity setting is easier to work with, but it's hard to see the crop on the thumbnails...
Correct.
I think what you all mean is you want the option for cropped image thumbnails to fill the thumbnail cell in the browser vs darkening the cropped area. Right?
Yes please! i use this thumb view to sequence shots for art projects and its very hard to visualize without the crop applied.
That this feature is missing is one of the really significant drawbacks of C1. Being able to view the cropped thumbnail only would noticeably increase productivity.
Would love to have this option!
Count me in for implementing this feature as a toggle on or off, depending on your preference.
For me, this option is useful for showing more than 12 images on the screen. If we could get an option to show more images in the viewer, the browser showing crops wouldn't be an issue with me.
I would be very keen on this as a feature also!
Hi everyone,
Thank you for the suggestion - this is not something we are currently working on.
This does not mean this is a bad suggestion or that it will never be adressed, but in an effort of transparency we want you to know that we are not currently allocating resources to solving this issue.
We will revisit the status of this thread if and when it changes.
I would love to see this toggle option
very much needed option!
I wouldn't want this, unless it was an option I could turn off.
One of the reasons is that I like to be able to see at a glance whether an image has been cropped or not.

This would be very useful also when checking the consistency of several photos (example: horizon alignment - after cropping) within the browser.
I would love also this option !!!!
