Fade Mask Adjustment OR multi mask control OR independent selection tool OR History Brush

It isn't too uncommon I have an adjustment that I have applied to more than one element in the photo, but I don't actually want it applied at the same amount. This has become especially true with implementation of the smart brushes. I love the way they work, but on the downside, it fills in the mask at 100%. Often times I find myself wanting a clean separation of these elements with the same adjustment, just applied at different amounts.

If you could simply use the magic eraser or ai eraser, and then "fade" that as one might in photoshop, you could then get a clean separation.

This could also be done with the "intersecting masks" request, but my bit would be to request that those masks have some type of opacity control so that you can control the strength unilaterally.

This could also be done in conjunction with a history panel if implemented as referenced by another popular request.

Lastly this could also be done in the form of a selection tool that doesn't effect the mask directly- allowing for a selection to be made and then using a soft brush to adjust as needed.

Needless to say there are many ways I see this ability working, It would be lovely if one of these could be implemented.

Current workaround

There are obviously a number of ways to sort of do this, but none of which are particularly convenient.

The most obvious is to duplicate the layer (thank god that is a thing now) and mask the second zone, and adjust to taste.

You can also try using a soft brush at low opacity while enabling auto mask, but this will net mixed results.

    Hi, thanks for the suggestion!

As you have noted, you can duplicate the layer and adjust the opacity for each of them (with the opacity slider). I understand that this is not satisfactory for you - would you be able to explain how you see it working differently or more efficiently?
