A common way I spend a lot of time is renaming files. This is often the situation whe shooting tethered.
Each folder / shot on a shoot (in a session) is named, Shot 01, Shot 02, etc. At the end of the day we will have 20 folders Shot 01 - Shot 20 or so. Each photo in the folder is named Shot 01_0001, Shot 01_0002 etc (probably somethin gmore elaborate, but thats just an example). I add each folder to my favorites and that way I can look at them all in the All Images smart album, or sort them all on rating, etc. I'll go through and cull out the obvious ones to be delted. This leaves me with a folder of images that isn't perfectly sequential. And, sometimes I move images around from folder to folder because they fit better somewhere else.
I then have to go back and rename each folder of images to make sure they are sequential and and have the right shot number name.
I propose a batch rename that automatically resets the rename counter when a new folder is selected. So, I could go to my all images smart album, and select batch rename Format: Image Folder Name_4 Digit counter and then, if ther was a little checkbox that said "reset renae counter with new folder" I could batch rename all images in the smart album and have the coutner reset to 01 for each folder instead of the counter counting up and up for each shot.
Probably a long winded way of saying this... but it would be incredibly helpful
Current workaround
Go to each folder and batch rename the shots inside... if you have thousands of images per folder and 20 folders, it takes a long time. |
