I would like to express my surprise and concern that, as of today, Capture One still does not fully support all RAW files from the Sony A7 V. Considering the popularity and widespread adoption of this camera among professional and enthusiast photographers, this limitation is quite unexpected.
Capture One has always been a top-tier solution for RAW processing, particularly for Sony users, which makes this gap even more difficult to understand.
Could you please share if there is an expected timeline for full support of Sony A7 V RAW files? Any information regarding upcoming releases or planned implementation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your attention and support.
So I emailed sonylistens@sony.com and asked what needs to be done to have the file spec for the Lossy Compressed files shared with Capture One's developers. Here is the reply:
Thank you for your follow‑up message and for sharing the additional details, including the link to the Capture One discussion thread.
To clarify Sony’s position: Sony provides third‑party software developers with the information they need to implement support for our camera models and file formats. However, each software company is responsible for integrating that support into their own applications, maintaining compatibility, and addressing any issues that arise within their software environment. Because of this, we are not able to comment on internal statements made by Capture One or on the specifics of their development timelines.
Since Capture One lists the ILCE‑7M5 as supported in their latest version, and since you are already running the most current release, the next step would be for Capture One’s support team to review sample files directly from your camera. They are best positioned to investigate why their software is not handling compressed RAW files as expected, especially if their product manager is already engaged with the topic.
If Capture One requires any additional technical information from Sony to complete their implementation, they can continue to reach out through the established developer channels. We are not able to facilitate direct contact or escalate on behalf of third‑party software teams, but they do have the appropriate pathways to request what they need.
I know this situation is frustrating, and I do appreciate you bringing it to our attention. If there is anything else I can help clarify from the Sony side, I’m here to assist.
I was really happy when the new update with support for the Sony A7 R VI arrioved but after installing I was disapointed because HQ Compressed RAW or Compressed RAW aren't supported. I love to shoot wildlive photos and for a high burst rate I use HQ Compressed RAW all the time.
"supporting new file formats from camera manufacturers is pretty straightforward, but we never know until we get the actual information." May 14, 2026 ..............zzzz
II trust that a professional company like yours will prioritize the timely update of your software to accommodate the new professional camera. The Sony A7RVI will be released this June, and I hope that the upgrade process will not require a delay of two to three months.
Pretty funny: I just got an email from Capture One: perpetual licenses will increase by 6% (starting in June). Full Sony A7V support is still not available, and now they’re raising prices. Why shouldn’t I just switch to Lightroom?
Seriously, it's more than 6 months since Sony A7V came out and yet Capture One is still not supporting those new formats. I think this is not acceptable especially since Adobe ALREADY supports those formats. How come you are not supporting those format yet? Did you really reached out to Sony for that? At this point, you are not trying at all and as a Sony user, this is very concerning especially since all future Sony cameras will use those formats.

Hello, we would like a more precise answer.
What exactly does it mean that we are in talks with Sony?
What does obtaining the programming for compressed files depend on? I see a significant lack of transparency from CO. Does getting the information from Sony depend on you purchasing the rights? Or are you waiting for them to give it to you for free through some legal process? Or what is causing this delay that Adobe, for example, doesn't have?
We want, we NEED, a date for when you will have them available. 5 days? 2 weeks? 1 year? We don't want to wait any longer for this. Or, on the contrary, we should change our workflow to "Lightroom," despite liking CO's color management and processor resources.
Regards, and please be honest and tell us what the real problem is.
any update on this topic ? its been more than 5 months since the Sony A7V got release - and still no wireless tethering support or Compressed RAW format supported
Are we to assume that the fact that we are now in may 2026 and that there is still no support for A7V that either that support is exclusive to Adobe or that Capture One has given up on Sony? I'd like support to be added to Capture One within the next few months and before my Capture One subscription expires so that I may end that subscription before it renews, why pay full price for partial support? I am so very incredibly disappointed with both Capture One and Sony.
NEW Updates Across the Lightroom Ecosystem - Lightroom Classic (LrC) 15.3, Lightroom Desktop (LrD) 9.3 and Lightroom on Mobile (LrM)
Working closely with Sony,we’re proud to be the first 3rd party to add support for the new Compressed (HQ) and Compressed RAW formats introduced with the Sony A7V!(LrC, LrD, LrM)
For information, we've reached a point where even BlackMagic Resolve 21 Photo page is able to process compressed RAW from Sony A7V. Just tested with Compressed and HQ, and it works.
The software is pretty capable for a beta (and free), it also offers already more editing latitude than Sony's Imaging edge suite.
Of course, I would prefer to use Capture One to edit my Compressed RAWs (needed for extended buffer in action photography). Hopefully soon.
Hi everyone, We’ve reached out to Sony Imaging in every reasonable way to obtain the file specifications from them, unsuccessfully so far. We’ll keep trying and we’ll let you all know when we have an update.
I still can't read files I took on my Sony early January, I have switched to RAW losses since the update in February 4th, but those files are bigger in size to the other 2, does Capture One has any estimate timeframe to support the other formats?
also might be a separate thread, but what is really being a bottle neck for me is the wireless tethering on the desktop and mobile apps, I keep using the A7IV because the A7V doesn't support it yet. Sure wire is fine in a pinch or if I am in a studio environment with minimal camera movement - but the moment I am shooting on location and moving a lot, the cable is so inconvenient - the main reason why I went and bought the subscription of the Capture One was to wireless tether from my camera, but now that I have the new one, I can't even use it and it's been 3-4 months already.
Is there finally a timeline for when support for the two missing RAW formats will be available?
I’m starting to get nervous and fear that I’ll have to purchase a new license just to get support for these two formats. If that’s the case, I think it would be outrageous.
After all, we’re not talking about open-source software written by developers in their spare time, but rather software developed by professionals for professionals.

Hi, thanks for the update. I installed it today.
But last week I did some work in HQ Compressed RAW and it's not being recognized. It only recognizes uncompressed RAW. Perhaps in a future update?
hello,
how is it possible to imagine that CO asking for spécifications, and sony refuse any reply.....since 6 month !?
is this situation a real partner relation ship.... ?
in the meantime, customers remain in doubt. no informations, no timing, no absolute certainty for a final solution.
this situation is totally grotesque and incomprehensible !
Adobe in competition with CO must having à good laugh.

Hello,
The absence of full RAW support is highly disappointing.
If telephone or mail communication is insufficient to obtain the necessary information from Sony, have you visit them in person ?
