I checked other ideas briefly, but as I already prepared the issue collection...
Case sensitivity
When assigning keywords, the search function is useful for finding the right one from a list of more than 1,200 keywords.
The downside is that the search function distinguishes between upper and lower case. Nowadays, almost no search routines do this anymore, not even the search window in the C1 Image Browser.
If you have found the term and realise that a keyword is still missing from the parent term, the current behaviour of the ‘Keyword Library’ floating tool is a bit of a disaster.
Create sub-expression
Right-click on the parent keyword > ‘Create sub-expression’:
The entire keyword tree expands at the points that previously contained the found sequence of letters
Any keyword is highlighted in orange, just not the parent keyword I was in before.
The new, empty field, in which a cursor is blinking, is not located within the tool’s window. To get there, you have to scroll a very long way.
Alternatively, you can enter the new keyword blindly, but any typos will go unnoticed.
Distinguishing between parent and child keywords
Whilst scrolling, it’s frustratingly obvious that there’s no visual distinction between the display of parent and child keywords.
As a workaround, I have entered the parent keywords in CAPITAL LETTERS, but this actually makes searching even more difficult and offers little help when scrolling if there are more sub-expressions under a MAIN KEYWORD than there is space in the window.
This space is further restricted by the fact that the ‘Keywords’ floating tool, which displays the keywords shown in the image, takes up half the sidebar when the ‘Automatic Size’ display setting is selected. I have a different understanding of ‘Automatic Size’: namely, that the window should only become larger or smaller depending on the keywords it contains.
A visual distinction would help when identifying parent and child keywords, for example by displaying the text boxes as empty or filled. This applies to both floating tools, because when parent and child keywords are assigned to an image, the ‘Keywords’ display is sorted alphabetically.
Order on export
By contrast, the export of keywords as a text file is unordered – presumably in the chronological order in which they were created? I do not understand why this list is sorted alphabetically within C1, yet the export does not at least offer the option of choosing between chronological or alphabetical order.

Current workaround
Differentiating between parent and child keywords by using CAPITALS for parent is possible but not helping much. I tried other workarounds, but keywording in Capture One is more time-consuming than it should be, I believe. |
