Please allow Crop data to be read from XMP file from Photo Mechanic /Aspect Ratio of camera

What problem do you see this solving?

I do a lot of in-camera cropping to different Aspect Ratios. This information is not picked up by Capture One. This wastes a huge amount of time in my workflow as I have to re-do my crop for every image. The time spent applying the crop is significant when processing a large amount of images, but even more significant is the prior step of time spent checking which aspect ratio needs to be applied to each image. Ideally RAW images would come into Capture One with the camera-generated crop already applied, this would be brilliant. (I can't confirm, but have read that this is possible in Photoshop and Lightroom for example).

An alternative if this isn't technically possible is to at least allow cropping data to be carried over from Photo Mechanic. I use Photo Mechanic for a first cull of images, and often apply a crop in order to evaluate the images suitability. If I apply all my crops in Photo Mechanic it saves this information in the XMP sidecar file, but Capture One doesn't read this crop data.

(I have seen a reply from Capture One Support on this forum which said, " Capture One only reads meta data out of XMP files and does not support reading crop data out of XMP."

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

This occurs every time I am processing a new set of images.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

I shoot RAW + Jpeg so that I can use the Jpeg file to show me the correct Aspect Ratio. This means effectively duplicating all my RAW files, with obvious impacts on storage etc, while also wasting time.

Voted, and yes, if crop data could be read from XMP then I could write my own tool to allow me to speed-crop images by hand, then just read that into C1 to avoid having to use the C1 crop tool.

agree on the need of this feature. Today I must shoot raw + jpg so I can see how I originally composed the picture. This is a lot of extra work.

I would very much like to see this feature also for the Leica Q2 Monochrom. You can use different digital focal lengths in-camera which actually just is a crop. Lightroom very much respects the crop on import but Capture One sadly doesn't. Would be very nice to have.
