What problem do you see this solving? Our monitors are wider than they are tall, which means one ends up doing an awful lot of scrolling when editing due to there being too many tools in the current context to fit in view. It is more to have them ...

It should be possible to cull after fixing exposure and applying a style for instance. It is easier to choose a keeper if you see a version closer to the end result. I would apply auto exposure and a style to all images before culling.
