I had an event today, one that I usually tether for with CO, and I assumed I couldn’t tether today with no support for the A7V. I decided to test it for my own sanity on my iPad and it let me connect the camera, which was a first! I tried to shoot and surprise- it worked! But on my iPad it was very grainy and corrupted so I knew something was still off. I compared my files on my card to it and confirmed something was wrong with CO. (I shoot going into jpg bc my photography is all sports/performing arts). I then tried to use my phone, which is my main device when tethering, and it worked and it looked normal - I have edited and exported my photos and they are very normal! Maybe a bit compressed? But that tells me at least something has been something done to give us some functionality!

While your overall care of this matter was pretty horrid, CO, I’m happy I’ll be able to tether fully next weekend!

When I purchased my first Sony camera it came with Capture One for Sony. That’s what lured me into the C1 ecosystem. What has changed that they no longer share their specs with you?

Will you let us know when all files are supported so we can upgrade a perpetual license?

    Hi everyone,

The update is currently planned for next week, on the 4th of February. It will contain support for Lossless Compressed files and wired tethering.

We're in contact with Sony to get specifications about the new file formats and to make sure future camera support happens faster than this time.

Thank you for taking time to engage on this issue, we've read every comment and appreciate that our communication has been subpar on the topic. For various reasons we've had no visibility on when we would be getting the camera and have only been able to get our hands on it about 10 days ago. Without the camera it is impossible to get precise estimates of the work required, and thus, a timeline.

We should have told you all that much earlier, and we will do it next time.

In my opinion, there can be exactly two reasons why we don't yet have support for Sony A7V RAW files in C1:

1.) The developers are unable to implement it (the developers of Lightroom obviously can), even though they probably had the files weeks before the camera's release on December 2 (or does anyone believe that only the YouTubers who were able to post their reviews of the camera online on the exact day of its release had a copy of the camera and that the C1 team didn't get one from Sony).

2.) They are sticking to their release plan for C1 to save costs (each release costs money for implementation, testing, and publication). And saving costs and maximizing profits has been the top priority since 2019, the year the company was sold to private equity firm Axcel. Shortly thereafter, the (completely overpriced) subscription model was introduced, and with the perpetual license, you only get 6-7 months of updates (so-called major releases every May and October/November). After that, there aren't even security updates, let alone updates to support new cameras and lenses. I don't know of any other commercial software that so brazenly tries to “force” its users into a subscription model. But it's no surprise, as this is the business model of private equity firms like Axcel: buy companies, reduce costs, maximize profits (at the expense of users), and then resell them in a few years.

In both cases, what C1 is doing is anything but a brilliant achievement.

By the way: I read online that if you change the value from ILCE-7M5 to ILCE-7M4 in the EXIF data (camera model) of the RAW files (Lossless Comp only), you can open the files in C1. I don't know if this results in any loss of quality, but I think it's a good workaround for now. It worked for me, anyway.

Holy shit guys youve really shot yourself in the foot. It makes me want to pull all licenses and never use capture one ever again... Absolutely horrible handling. A waste of time and a waste of money. Staring at my $3500 paperweight as we speak.

Going into a 3rd month is really (way) too long. A slow start of the year made it possible for me to wait (and leave the camera unused, which is crazy), but hope we can work starting at February first. I must. C1 please fix it this week. It's critical.

What I imagine could be the ONLY explanation for such a long delay...

( i know you guys are working hard on it.. but come on! We need yall to COMMUNICATE BETTER! We are running businesses that literally rely on your software to run. The least you can do is be transparent with whats going on. Because right now it seem as if the C1 support team could care less about how this delay is affecting their customers.)

It is critical for me to be able to work with hundreds of RAW files from the new Sony A7 V camera. I have also noticed that for several days, multiple users have been requesting a software update to enable proper support for these RAW files.

As a Sony Ambassador in Mexico, I am currently required to deliver in-depth reviews, particularly focused on color rendering and dynamic range. Capture One is widely recognized as an industry-leading tool for accurate color science and dynamic range evaluation, which makes it essential for this work.

I would appreciate a clear response regarding RAW compatibility for the Sony A7 V, including any available updates, timelines, or recommended workarounds to proceed with my work.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

You should be concerned that it's gotten quiet here, Capture One. It means people have given up on getting a detailed update with a date commitment and are looking to other platforms to achieve what they need. I have personally ended up subscribing to Lightroom (which is software I really dislike, frankly, but it gets me the camera support I need).

I'm a very new Capture One convert coming from over a decade of Adobe. What I've been able to use in terms of my older collection of photos has really solidified my choice especially with regards to the improvements on Sony RAWS and how they are rendering within this software. It really does seem to work with the raw files better. Producing an overall superior image.

While I've no doubt that level of work calibrating the software for a brand new sensor type (partially stacked etc...) is challenging and I'm willing to make allowances for a superior product, the CX on this particular thread is a little bit discouraging to say the least.

We are all aware that any SAS company will have a pipeline in place with a dedicated go live date for the next update featuring A7V support. Also known would be the features that are expected to be covered in this update with regards to the camera.

The lastest admin update about 'inital support' makes me pretty nervous about the future ability to use my A7V for the forseeable. Having tried Adobes lossless compression work around patch fix and being less than impressed I'm sure many of us on this thread would appreciate a more comprehensive update on this workflow and what we should expect in Feburary so we can plan accordingly.

As has already been mentioned numerous times below, this product is sold as 'for professionals' and when you deny professionals clear and coherent updates on the product that they rely on to make a living you start creating a lot of unnecessary bad blood and confusion for really no gain other than not trusting your user base to be with you in creating the best product possible.

Anyways just my thoughts, would love a more coherent update soon but I shall not hold my breath based on the frequency below.

Dont cry, you only paid 2 months for nothing, this its not a software for professionals...

Hi everyone, thanks again for your patience. We plan to release initial support for Sony a7 V in the beginning of February.

An estimated date would be nice.
Hopefully also tethering will work smooth.

Different topic but relevant: we might need C1 working under Linux in the future.
