Add keyword capabilities

I'm using CO 16.7.5.7 on Mac running Tahoe. Keywords are making me crazy. First, in the keyword tool, all searches are case sensitive. There needs to be a way to switch to case insensitive. I have hundreds of keywords, some are copied from the web as I ID birds and the capitalization is all over the place. Second, when I go to change the case, this generates a new version of the keyword while keeping the old one for some reason. If I move a keyword to be the child of a different keyword, then I also get a duplicate. I find that sometimes the new one does not appear in the filter section on the library tab. But I also find the the duplicates do not appear. This is all very confusing and makes setting up and maintaining the keyword list a real challenge.

In addition to having a switch for case sensitivity, there really needs to be a method for regularizing the keywords. A bird might have several different ways to spell its name (eg. Bee-eater, Bee eater, Bee Eater, etc.). Once a particular choice is made, there needs to be some method of enforcing the same choice each time so that keywording actually works as useful tool. Perhaps alert the user that a similarly spelled keyword already exists and ask what to do. I could imagine that it would be useful to be able to construct a master list of keywords to use for all catalogs/sessions (I use catalogs) that would set the standard spelling and capitalization for all uses of that keyword across all catalogs/sessions. It need not contain all keywords, only those that are used all the time.

I also note that when I do a search in the keyword tool to bring up all keywords for a particular animal sort (eg. eagles) - which I do now without the first letter as I work through getting capitalization sorted - If I try to add a child keyword to one in the search list, nothing happens. The display reverts to the full list but no empty keyword slot is presented for me to type into. This is very awkward. If I add to the displayed result of a search, it should just add it right there.

On a related issue, when I add a keyword, the moment I hit enter and the word is added to the list, the word is automatically moved to its alphabetical position in the list. With hundreds of keywords, this means a search by hand to find it so I can add it to the images. It would be extremely helpful if the add process included two steps: 1) move the list to show the new position of the keyword on screen, and 2) color code the new keyword so that it visually each to find. This color code would disappear once you clicked on it to assign it or clicked away to do something else.

I work on a laptop and don't have a large screen to view the edit session on. I find it useful to keep a separate keyword tool to see the keywords for the current image on the screen so I can see what I've added, if anything, to the image being processed. This helps me ensure that I've keyworded this image. However, this take up screen space that I already use for other things. I would find it a great help if I could choose to display the keywords for the current image at the bottom of the image where the star rating, color coding, and exposure information are shown. This would use a bit less space and, moreover, would use it in a place that is much less obtrusive than a separate small window does now.

That's all for now. Please contact me if you need more details.
