Copy tool adjustments to layer/new layer

The flow for the skin tool is very awkward if you want to use it in a new layer. You have to:

  1. Click the skin color to select it

  2. Create masked layer from selection

  3. Select the new layer

  4. Choose the color again which probably doesn't match the color you just picked exactly

It would be better if you:

  1. Click the skin color to select it

  2. Create masked layer from selection

  3. Move/Copy tool adjustments to the layer with the mask

This flow works globally across the application with other tools as well if you give users the option to:

  • Move/copy adjustments to an existing layer

  • Move/copy adjustments to a new layer

An added bonus with this flow is that a user doesn't have to know ahead of time to hold alt when clicking on the revert icon and can just click a layer off and on in a more intuitive way. I wouldn't get rid of the alt click behavior though.

Being able to move settings to layers also gives users more granular control over sets of settings to adjust through opacity.

Current workaround

Current workaround for the skin tone tool involves making the user select their color twice. It is also hard to accurately pick the exact colors both times.

I struggle with something similar. The difficulty of picking the same color twice comes from the picker reading color from a single pixel. I just proposed that they add an option for a larger picker window, like 5x5 pixels and then calculate an average. It's available in Lightroom and seems a very basic functionality.
