Add JPEG XL Export

What problem do you see this solving?

Been waiting a long time for an option that would allow me to export photos to cloud services in high quality at relatively small sizes, taking advantage of modern features such as HDR. Clearly at this point we're never getting HEIF export, so how about JPEG XL? I understand this is not patent-encumbered in the same way and is now fully supported on MacOS at least.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

I have stacks of photos going back years I'd like to back up and enjoy through services such as iCloud, without having to subscribe to TB-size storage tiers. Every time I see a C1 update I'm hopeful the day will arrive. So far I remain disappointed, as I have been once again this week.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

In theory I could export to enormous TIFF files and use an external encoder to achieve this, but really life is just too short. So, no.

Please also vote for HDR support in this main thread: https://captureone.ideas.aha.io/ideas/FR-I-306

Now that Apple is using JPEG XL for photos I think it makes sense to reprioritise support for the format.

I second this feature request. In 2024 it is a necessity to have more efficient image formats available. In addition to JPEG XL it would be nice to see support for AVIF fomat, which is already widely used in ecommerce and requested by clients/agencies.

    I second this feature request.

Clearly JXL is the new standard image delivery format that is gaining support. It's superior and offers features that old JPEG doesn't even offer (e.g. HDR), on top the file size savings. Other pro software for content creation already support it and I'm waiting for it to come to C1 (I'm on a permanent licence).
