What problem do you see this solving?
I have regularly had difficulty with placing my cursor on the right spot for scrolling either down the tools (and back up again) and likewise in the browser because the column is narrow and doesn't stand out colourwise. I manage in the end but it slows down my work flow and can be irritating. I reported this two or three years ago and was told it would be referred to the developers for a possible change. It seemed to me that that change hadn't happened,although in the last week I have discovered, somewhat fortuitously, that if I click in the right place an orange band appears which does then make scrolling easier and more precise. But finding that 'right place' isn't straightforward.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

I use the touchpad on the laptop with the CO scrollbar and/or the up/down keys in places where that works, e.g. scrolling through the thumbnails. I don't use a mouse because eventually it makes my hand/arm hurt, plus there's not that much space on the table, or I have it on my lap. (I've been using a touchpad since the days when most people weren't used to them.)
Windows 10 on a Dell XPS. I have a small tablet but I only use that when I need to trace/draw. I'm starting to look for a newer XPS, this one is still ok for what I need but it's four years old. I don't know if I want to add something else to the mix because as it is, I'm having to use two pieces of software to do what I used to do in Lightroom (pretty much only editing in CO).

To your specific question, if you don't have a mouse or a scroll wheel, how are you navigating? A two-finger swipe up or down on my trackpad scrolls the tools up or down.
I don't disagree that some contrast there could be useful. I was replying to another user suggesting it would be quick and/or easy. However, I haven't used that scrollbar in probably years and I work with a keyboard, trackpad, and Wacom tablet. If you can provide more info about specifically what you do have (computer type, Win/Mac, mouse, trackpad, whatever) I can maybe suggest some alternatives.

I'm having the same problem and none of those keyboard shortcuts work for me. I also don't have a scroll wheel or a button mouse, I only use the touchpad. Why can't the vertical scrollbar colors, the tiny arrows and the bar itself, just be reversed, always orange and then gray when in use? That seems like the easiest thing. I can barely make out where those scroll bars are and often click a different open application when it has a black/dark background. This is an accessibility issue and my biggest frustration.
Then I have a tip for you, you can use the mouse wheel in the viewer too, for zooming in and out where the mouse pointer is.
Just in case you don't know yet:
If you have multiple images in the viewer in mutli-view mode, holding down the Shift key you can scroll simultaneously. With the Hand tool, Shift lets you pan all images together.
Thanks - I am a bit of a dinosaur with tech. Yes I do have it on my mouse but don't think I have ever used it. So it didn't occur to me that that's what you were meaning. And yes, it is working with the Alt key down to scroll through the tools and without the Alt key for the browser. I think, for the present, I prefer to use the scroll bar for the tools, rather than having to use both hands, but may use the wheel for the browser.
Hi Ian, between the left and the right mouse button? Not all mice have this, maybe. Or do you mean on a graphics tablet?
OK, I'm on Windows and I've found it. It was unchecked and I have now checked it. But I'm not seeiong any difference on my screen and I'm still using the scroll bar. Partly this is because I'm not familiar with the scroll wheel - hiow it works and where to find it. But also I'm finding it easy enough to locate the scroll bar and use it when working in daylight (as now) though more difficult when working in artificial light in the evening.
I'm realising that this conversation started when I lost the HDR tool. I got it back by closing the programme down and restarting. But it was because of that that I got myself confused when I thought I had lost all the tools from White Balance to HDR when scrolling was all that was needed. Loss of the HDR tool, of course, can't be explained that way and so remains a mystery. But it was through this experience that I discovered the scroll bar and am now happy using it. It just involves the mouse, no need to use keys as well.

Ian, are you on Mac or Windows? If the former, click the bold Capture One to the right of the apple at top left and you’ll see settings on the menu. If the latter, I believe it’s Edit>Preferences. Sorry about that. :)
I guess what I’m saying is that you don’t need to click the arrows or the bar at all. Check that scroll wheel option. If it’s checked, hover your mouse over the tools panel and hold the Control (Mac)/Alt (Win) key. Simultaneously scroll the mouse wheel or flick the trackpad with 2 fingers. If it isn’t checked, ignore the key press and just scroll/flick. In either case, you're not moving the pointer. It will continue to hover somewhere (anywhere) over the non-pinned portion of the tool panel.

Although I've been using Capture One now for at least four years I still have difficulty finding my way around those parts of the system which I am not regularly using so, referring Brian, to your first comment, I have looked in all the drop down menus and I can't find Settings anywhere. What I was previously doing for scrolling was to try to find the tiny arrow at the top or bottom of the narow column it is in, dark grey againgst a black background, which is why it was never easy tio find. All too often I was either clicking just outside the column, so nothing was happening, or else inside but not on the narropw, so there was an uncontrolled scroll to one end of the column or the other. This was always particularly difficult when I wanted to use the curves tool, which in fact I do use quite a lot. But too often I overshot it.
I now reckon the bar which, like the arrows, lights up orange when I find it, is in fact slightly easier both to find and to use, despite also being dark grey against the black background. I'm surpriswed I hadn't noticed it before but that would have been because I was always trying to find the arrows and it isn't near them. But I still don't understand why there isn't a greater tonal contrast than the dark grey against black, for both the arrows and the bar, and am asking for this to be provided - which seems to me a simple improvement tpo make. Or perhaps I coukld customise my screen in this way, if I knew how to?
@BeO Is the Alt key notation correct on-screen or does the text advise a different key? I ask so I can note correctly in the bug report.
On Windows, C1 v22, it is Alt+swipe with two fingers on the notebook trackpad.
368049553458 Hi, Ian. Check Settings>General (tab)>Scroll Wheel Changes Slider Value.
I have this box unchecked so a two-finger swipe/mouse scroll wheel moves the tool panel up or down. Checking this box means I have to grab that little slider you're talking about which is absolutely a pain. Now, if you like changing slider values this way, that box won't help. I'm on Mac, btw. Things may be different on Windows.
Edit: Further note, after a bit of testing, I've found that with the box checked trackpad/scroll wheel does, indeed, move the slider value but holding down the CONTROL key + swipe/wheel moves the tool tab up/down. The notation says holding the option key + moves the tab but it doesn't for me. Control wheel + does. Give that a try, please, and let me know. If control + works for you, too, I'll submit a bug report. If not, it's obviously something I have remapped somewhere else and a me problem.
