Request a new feature, or support for a camera/lens that you would like to use in Capture One.
What problem do you see this solving?
The Catalog is nicely designed, but performance can be poor to dreadful.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
I attempted to read metadata from 15'000 files. After 10 hours, 1690 had been read, and estimated time to completion was 72 hours. Awell-known competing application managed the same task in under 1 hour.
Current workaround
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One? There is no workaround apart from abandoning the use of an external DAM tool as master - which isrecommended practice from industry experts. |
I've noticed this too. As I remember, it also makes a difference how many images are selected, a single image being less of a problem than a large number.
I can add some further input here:
I have discovered that "Load Metadata" works faster under two conditions:
1. After the operation starts, deselect all images in the browser. For some reason an active selection has a noticeable impact on performance.
2. Working by selecting from folder, rather than User Collection, or with a Filter applied, is faster by a HUGE factor. A "Load Metadata" operation for a selection from a filter takes multiple hours. The same selection, but directly from a folder (so Folder "2022" rather than Catalog>Filter=2022) takes of the order of 10 minutes.
Poor to dreadful is a very accurate description of Capture One's performance with catalogues, especially larger catalogues.
Loading metadata also takes quite a while. Here, after opening Capture One, it takes more than a minute before ratings, colour tags, etc., appear in the Filters tool.
A related request here: Improved handling of catalogues (i.e. faster and less unresponsive).
