Installing Capture one on an external drive

M4 Mac Mini comes with limited internal storage capacity and requires that applications be installed on external drives to conserve space. Most application allow the option to install other than just the internal drive.

Current workaround

I was able to install Capture one an external drive and it is functioning properly.

First I moved the catalog location to the external drive. Capture One backs up the catalog every time to the external drive.

Next I moved the Capture One application on my internal drive to the trash.

Next I moved the .dmg file to the external drive.

Next I opened the .dmg and ran it on the external drive.

Final step, deleted the capture one application from the trash.

Capture One app takes around 1.5 GB of drive space. Thing you ask for is somehow mind bending. I can’t see how 1.5 GB can have significant impact on drive free space. Just keep sessions and catalogs on external ssd drive, I suggest thunderbolt one, and you will be fine. No need to have some special feature of installing software on external drive. If you need it so badly just move app package wherever you want outside application folder, it should work just fine.
