Renaming files including file extensions

What problem do you see this solving?

In Capture One Pro, when renaming image files, I miss an option to also change the file extension of the image files as part of the renaming. This applies to both the import of new image files and to image files that have already been imported.

Especially when importing image files including renaming, the renaming can only be applied to the primary file name. It is generally not possible to change the file extension at the same time, for example from upper case to lower case or vice versa.

I don't understand the reason for this restrictive approach to renaming image files.

Example:

Original filename DSC1234.NEF

Target filename => dsc1234.nef

Currently possible filename dsc1234.NEF

As a user of the software, if I want the file extension to be in lower case when importing the image file, as shown in the example, then I can do that

a) only before importing to Capture One and

b) it cannot be easily changed after the import has been completed.

This means additional effort within your own workflow, which could be avoided by taking the file extension into account when renaming files and gives the user greater flexibility when naming image files.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Any renaming is affected by this.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

No. The following workarounds causes more effort by additional Steps during my workflow or generates additional license costs.

Other manufacturers (Adobe LR Classic, Canon, etc.) offer more here. Changing the file extension, for example from upper case to lower case, is no problem and can be taken into account when renaming the file during import, for example.
