Give the tool size more flexibility – not just Small / Medium / Auto

What problem do you see this solving?

The currently available size options for tools - Small / Medium / Auto - are too inflexible, and depending on the screen size even useless.

A prime example is the Library tool where in Auto mode lots of screen space may be wasted and Medium on the other hand may be way too small.

Why not make the bottom edge of tools in the pinned area movable for any tool that would benefit from this. This is different than a scroll bar.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Frequently. It can get pretty tedious, if a tool like Library, Filters or Metadata is being used a lot.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

Yes, using the scrollbar, changing the size of a tool (too often) or moving it between pinned and scrollable area.

I wish I had more votes! This is the most frustrating thing about using Capture One. And I have been using since 2004.

I think it would help new users as well.

When releasing a product that is higly customizable, this should be number one on the UI specs at Capture One. A user should be able to change the heights of tools to their own needs that best fits their workflow. Every little frustration and distraction, no matter how small, affects creativity and productivity.

If only the world used one screensize and resolution this entire subject could be greatly simplified.

Also one font size and a single common language.

I just tried doing with export recipes, as five top most used fit within the view, but the bottom one is slightly going outside and sometimes I end up "scrolling down" just by clicking on it. Expanding the tool few pixels down would eliminate this accidental UI glitch.

Sounds like there may be a quorum here for creating a collective specification of how things should work - perhaps, specifically, what the Auto size should do.

For me, Auto, mostly never works for me, too.

I'd find it rather tiresome to have to choose between lots of different sizes all the time. Some tools would need constant adjusting, for instance as you added more layers. I just wish the Auto sizing worked better!

Just crashed into this and came here to make the same suggestion - the random "Auto" size is quite maddening.

    Hi everyone,
Thank you for the suggestion - this is not something we are currently working on.

This does not mean this is a bad suggestion or that it will never be adressed, but in an effort of transparency we want you to know that we are not currently allocating resources to solving this issue.

We will revisit the status of this thread if and when it changes.

Yep, tools size definitely needs an improvement, it's either too small or wastes space, nothing suitable in between.

I agree.  All size options offered, even Auto, never truly adjust correctly as-is.  Would rather have the ability to manually set sizes

It does. And you're right that tools resizing every time the content changes wouldn't necessarily be ideal.

Thomas, that was exactly my thought at first. Actually the pinned area behaves like this.

If I could have it all, I would actually like both: full Auto size and fully manual and step less sizing.
Why? You might be in a situation, where you want to work on two tools you would like at a certain size. Filter and Library come to mind, for some housekeeping tasks.

It might be a bit disadvantageous, if for instance the Library tool constantly resizes while you open and close folder trees.

I hope that makes sense! :)

    I completely agree.

It would be nice if the Auto Size option actually meant that the tool adjusted itself to the content.

Correct tools use of screen real estate
