Grid and guides on iPad (and in live view)

Which device are you using?

iPad Pro 12.9 m1

What problem do you see this solving?

In architectural (especially) and other commercial genres, you often need to either compose to a particular layout grid or make sure your verticals/horizontals are bang on when you're on location. Cameras usually have at least several grid formats, as does C1 Pro and Cascable. The ability to have a guide/grid in several formats, visible on an image and, if/when Live View happens, on the Live View windows as C1 Pro does would make verifying your image geometry way easier.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Every time I'm trying to square up a one-point perspective on an architecture project, which is...quite a few times on every !@#$ location shoot.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals?

Cascable. For shoot review, zooming in and dragging so as to use the borders of the iPad screen/C1 view for this will verify h/v straightness, and the grids on my IQ4150 and Canon R--but when you're shooting in a place where the camera is inaccessible, this requires a bunch of annoying trial and error. Auto Keystone isn't half bad when editing on desktop, but I'd rather get it right on set.

Hello, our plan is to have a 3x3 grid when we launch Live view - or shortly after.

I agree this is essential for architecture photographers and would like to see this feature ASAP.

Super, thanks ! I don't know about nxn, will check with the team since simple decisions like this can lead to interesting design problems when you have small screen real estate as we do on iPhone and iPad. Thanks so much for this, there is a chance we will test this with customers before release, if you are interested in participating please drop me a line here: eke@captureone.com.Thanks so much!

I use 1x1 (to line up the central point) and 3x3 (rule of thirds) pretty frequently. And if you're going to provide 1x1 and 3x3, you might as well provide an option for 'n x n' and make it up to everyone to use whatever they happen to need. There's always edge cases.

Hey 370116679418, thanks for the feedback! I am very excited to say that we will start working on the live view and hopefully we will have it ready soon. On the first iteration, we are thinking of providing a 3x3 grid. Would that be enough for photographers like you? If not, what would you need and why? Please try to provide detailed examples that we can use with the team to prioritise and build.
