Request a new feature, or support for a camera/lens that you would like to use in Capture One.
I would like to start by acknowledging that the core of the issues we are facing may primarily stem from Canon's Wi-fi technology. However, I believe there are improvements within Capture One's scope that could greatly mitigate these challenges.
As a user of the R5C camera, I am experiencing significant delays in image uploads, with each image taking around 20-25 seconds. This is quite problematic in professional settings with models, clients, and creative teams, where time is of the essence.
As an alternative solution, Capture One could enhance the speed of Wi-Fi connections by downloading only preview JPEGs instead of RAW files. These JPEGs would act as proxies, allowing for quicker review during shoots while the full RAW files are transferred at a more manageable pace or imported at a later time.
In comparison, devices like the Hasselblad X1D-50c can upload a full-size 50 megapixel RAW file over Wi-Fi in just one second, suggesting room for improvement in Wi-Fi transfer speeds. While this may be an issue on Canon's end, Capture One could play a vital role in providing solutions.
A key area for enhancement is the Capture One "Cloud" feature, especially when used with the iPhone 15. Attaching the iPhone 15 to the camera tripod and connecting via a short USBC cable should eliminate the need for longer tethering cables. However, this solution is performing differently than expected. Currently, the system does not upload images to the desktop in real-time, and downloading images is extremely slow — taking about 30 minutes for 70 shots, with only a fraction successfully downloaded. And this is all happening while connected to fiber optic business grade internet with speeds of 500Mbits. The system then indicates that everything is synced, which is misleading.
If Capture One could address these issues, this feature could be a revolutionary alternative to traditional wireless tethering via Wi-Fi. Enhancing the speed and reliability of the Capture One Cloud sync in this setup would be immensely beneficial for commercial photographers engaged in high-volume, fast-paced shoots. Something similar was implemented by Blackmagic Cloud, which allows the creation of proxies from files that are 70Gb big in a matter of minutes and then uploading them to the cloud for Online Collaboration. This indicates that if this is can be done with huge video files this defintely shouldnt be an issue for small Raw files which weigh only 50-60mbs.
Thanks,
Current workaround
unfortunately the only workaround is still using cables that are a danger for tripping, breaking cameras and limit our creativity. |
HI @Guest , thanks for your message.
Regarding the first part of it, keep a close eye on our next release (version 16.4) in a few weeks, it should contain something that helps greatly!
You are true though that we will not be able to overcome the limits of the hardware, so please make sure to send those suggestions to your favourite camera manufacturer too!
About the cloud issue: a bug was fixed just last week, it should now transfer all files as expected. The speed of it is something we are always trying to improve.
