Request a new feature, or support for a camera/lens that you would like to use in Capture One.
What problem do you see this solving?
I wish to add a simple border (black, white, color) to images. in order to do this I jump out to DxO which is not ideal . I have previously requested this. I can t believe that this is not a requirement from many photographers, particularly those photographing in B&W.
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
several times a week, every week.
Current workaround
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One? yes - DxO Photolab, which has this functionality with ease. I have also used ON1, but dont like that software. |
My current work around (for macOS users only) is to use this Magick Frames package. It comes with many different types of frames you can add to an image, and supports customizing it for your own preferences. It does require a little technical skill if you want to customize it.

"Not currently allocating resources to solving this issue" Yawn, I requested this same feature well over two years ago, I guess you don't care unless a request comes from your favoured professional photographers
Alex,
As a principle the idea of a paid-for Plugin (C1 or third party) for those people who would like the functionality vs. a new feature with a price increase might be required since many user already complain about the cost of processing software.
The problem one can see, as applications develop and new features are added, is that many of the new things are not relevant to existing users. So they do not really want to pay for the updated version when they perceive no benefit.
So, although I would never wish to add to the complexity of software development and product license management, distribution, etc, it seems to me that there may be a case for re-assessing the "Plug-in" functionality and third-party developer partnerships in order to satisfy people's desires more quickly and remain as cost-effective as possible for the whole body of users.
That said, recent times seem to have favoured Mac users over Windows users in terms of newly created functionality and so there may be a case for seeking differential pricing in addition to enhancing the availability and use of Plug-ins in order to control the entry-level costs to users.
FWIW, for borders on output files, on the few occasions I have used them, I use the Print option and print to a file.
Mathieu thanks very much for letting us know borders aren't currently in the roadmap..this sharing is really appreciated.
fyi.. to other users, based on this i've purchased a standalone product designed for CO which adds black and white borders (or both if you double process) on export, not ideal but much quicker and simpler than round-tripping through full apps..
Notes:
need to sync the export output folder to bring the framed image in
a good range of widths, although all are symmetrical
exporting to non-jpg format creates two files - the recipe format plus a jpg with the frame
Norton antivirus blocks the application, but easy to exclude the app folder (or files ) in Norton settings.
i wont post the url as may be against forum rules, but a search for 'pixelcatcher borders' should find it.
Hope this helps..
Mathieu something as simple as this built in to CO would be very nice..i'd pay a few dollars extra with the perpetual license if this was an option.
Hi everyone,
Thank you for the suggestion - this is not something we are currently working on.
This does not mean this is a bad suggestion or that it will never be adressed, but in an effort of transparency we want you to know that we are not currently allocating resources to solving this issue.
We will revisit the status of this thread if and when it changes.
Totally agree. For me, border on export is a must.
Yes, rudimentary borders in selectable colors, or even just black or white would be very much needed and so simple. Simplest implementation would be to allow crop tool crop outside the image, "too big", and resulting in black borders? User defined thickness would be much nicer though.
100% agree. Assume its not too difficult and it would be a great efficiency gain.
I use DXO also, but frustrating to roundtrip for a simple white border. If there were any effect options i'd appreciate:
just 'plain' with adjustable thickness would be a great start!
Yes, B&W and thickness would be just fine for me, agree that I would be happy for this to happen on export, but better in the application itself.
+1
I wish I had a configurable (black or white and thickness) border for export (or maybe already in the preview but I would need it in the exported image file).
