Color inversion function / Negative film inversion

With its fine grained color control and its ability to replicate a specific editing style to other images Capture One is supremely well suited to editing scanned film. When working with negative film, however, Capture One lacks the ability to invert colors and requires us to apply hacks and tricks to get good results, which then limit the bulk editability when working together with digital images. Having a color inversion function (as a toggle on/off function or as a layer adjustement) would greatly help us work with scanned film.

What problem do you see this solving?

With the renaissance of film photography there are many photographers working with images of scanned color negative film. When working with such images in Capture One, color inversion can only be achieved through hacks e.g., by inverting the level sliders. This causes the functionality of many other tools such as brightness and exposure to work in the opposite way as intended. This impairs the ease of use and efficiency of the software and breaks compatibility when bulk editing a mixture of color-inverted and non-color inverted images e.g. when making brightness adjustemnts before printing.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

As I regularly work with both digital cameras and film this affects me very regularly. I usually scan images once a month but then work with them to finish them for print or webpublishing. In all those cases (when working with both inverted and non-inverted images) my work is affected.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

As explained above color-inversion can be achieved by inverting the levels sliders.

The feature exists in Capture One CH, but I don't think that version is available to the public. It'd be great though if film conversion was available in the Pro version too!
