Geometric selections (like Photoshop's Pen Tool)

What problem do you see this solving?

I commonly need to do selections that follow geometric paths (architecture), where using a brush is painfully tedious to get a hard edge and the magic brush struggles with patterns (like wood flooring) to find the correct edges. I often need to do these selections to clean up imperfections like reflections and different colored lights also disrupt the magic brush for selection.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Every architectural photo I work with - others occassionally.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

I often toggle between doing edits in Photoshop because of the pen tool. Even Photoshop's polygon lasso tool is a massive help.

Good to hear that it helps out. It's the same as in Affinity Photo, I wonder if it is docmented for C1.

You're welcome. It too took me a couple of years until I've got to know this. :-)

!! I never knew.  Thank you BeO.  A bit embarrassing, but thank you.  This solves the issue and am sorry I didn't know this years ago.

    Hi Ros,

Doesn't the Shift key create a straight line between the last and current brush click at any angle for you?

Angle approx. 40 degree to the horizon:

Hello a search for lasso brought me to this post.  I would like to endorse Daniel's request here.  I am also an architectural photographer but also do Art installations. A lot of my images made in a gallery include video screens and projections.  I always need to treat the screens and projections separately in terms of exposure and colour balance.  A pen or lasso tool for layer masking would help me hugely.  If the screen or projection is perfectly orthogonal, I can use the shift key with a small brush then fill the mask, but anything at an angle needs very careful (and slow) mask drawing, and never looks as good as it could.

Capture One is a very intuitive and fast Raw editor, this would help me get through my images much more quickly.  Thanks for your attention!

    Hi Daniel,
Thank you for the suggestion - this is not something we are currently working on.

This does not mean this is a bad suggestion or that it will never be adressed, but in an effort of transparency we want you to know that we are not currently allocating resources to solving this issue.

We will revisit the status of this thread if and when it changes.
