What problem do you see this solving?
the noise reduction in C1 is so outdated, often it makes images worse then without. They just get blurry. Actually i never use whats given in C1.
please see here a comparison of the output of C1 vs Lightroom with integrated AI denoise

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
today - i often shoot in the dark. Even modern cameras, with their much enhanced performance in the last years, end up delivering to noisy images.

Current workaround
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One? Yes, but relying on external tools is always somewhat complicated and brings disadvantages. So i'd love to see some big improvements here. |
Great news. Just tried it out and I'd say: It is what was needed. Color noise is not gone completely but reduced to very low levels. If we could use the color noise slider on the enhanced NR files there might still be a bit more to achieve. Some hot (white) pixels are still there so I'd also love to see the hot pixel slider being usable on the "enhanced" files. Can you keep these two sliders - or at least their effect - alive after enhanced noise reduction has been applied?
DXORaw still manages to squeeze a bit more detail out of the RAWs but it's demosaicing generates colors that don't match with the C1 colors and need more tweaking, not to speak of the giant DNG files it creates. Being spared this round-trip is a most welcome improvement.
Sharpening is possible but it also affects the remaining luminance noise so the it's usability is limited. But finally I'm able to use my Z8 with the same ISOs as my old D3s and still get more usable pixels despite the sacrifices that have to be made.
On the Mac Studio it puts a heavy load on the GPUs so I expect it to be noticeably slower on machines with less of them.
My impression is that again C1 has found a way that allows them to still use their unique demosaicing secret sauce which I believe to be some genius math that roots way back to the early 1990s. We probably never will know. My only question is: Why did it take you so long?
Hi. Let´s see how it works with my IQ4 150 on higher ISO
First off, I'm loving the new Enhanced NR. It covers my needs very well.
That said, it surely would be great to be able to mask that overlay file such that ENR only applies to a portion of my image. Any chance of you bringing that up with the devs?
This is exciting news! Thanks, CO team, for listening to your customer base and moving to enhance noise reduction in the software. I look forward to using the results of your efforts. Good luck!
Hi all. Thanks for your votes and comments. We're happy to announce that you can try this in our 16.8 beta release from today. If you're not already signed up to beta test, you can do it at www.captureone.com/beta.
AIノイズリダクションは、CaptureOneに欠けた大きなピースです。
この機能が実装され、CaptureOneがより完璧なソフトウェアとなることを望みます。
I work a lot in nightlife events and even with the best lenses I have to push the ISO up.
I'm already testing Lightroom’s Denoise features, but got more used to Capture One and prefer the colour management.
I still have hope it will make it soon. @Capture One, Come On!

The future arrived a while ago.
still behind, make it happen.
Hi C1, please can this be priority feature to be updated? I'm a Fujifilm mainly event shooter and have to run all my images through Topaz after I've exported. Just feels like it should be implemented. Lightroom has caught up.
I love that the only time Capture One responds to rebuke us for posting links showing how the noise reduction is so lacking in C1, but makes no move to improve it. I like all of the new filtering options, retouching and all that, but would hope that they would put effort into improving BASIC functions that have not seemed to have any meaningful refresh for a long time (NOISE REDUCTION!!!)
I received an email today from C1 about a response from a comment I made:
"Capture One Product Manager responded to idea Please Improve noise reduction to modern standards
Capture One Product Manager
I'm sorry but I unfortunately cannot let you post a link here, this isn't an advertising platform and this can be a security risk for the users of this platform.
I would encourage you to share your work in one of the many user-lead communities out there."
With this software getting better in some old tools and new tools, I am complexed how my comment for Noise Reduction could be a security risk? To be honest, I do not remember if I posted something with a link. I have posted in the past the only feature I miss from DXO when I switched to C1 in January of 2019 was the noise reduction.
My point, C1 should have proper noise reduction capabilities to match today's requirement. An AI solution has to be done correctly with the ability for the user to adjust settings. Just as the other AI functions that C1 has introduced over the years and their statement that C1 will never use AI to override the creative ability of the user.
Just a few days ago I was thinking how it'd be great if modern noise reduction was one of the next steps to tackle by the Capture One team. While we're at it, a hue selection of purple fringing reduction would also be great.
Otherwise, I'm super happy with Capture One lately! ✨
"FUTURE CONSIDERATION" - "Created on Mar 19, 23" long discussion...
I know several event photographers that told me they couldn't change from Lightroom to Capture One specifically because the noise reduction is not on par. I find Capture One to be the perfect software for editing event photography, as it is faster than Lightroom, nicer image output and allows opening the catalog from a server. I made the jump years ago, but my colleagues are - still - waiting!
Modern noise reduction and sharpening are not important to C1's core customer base. These functions may eventually get some improvement in C1 but I seriously doubt that they will rise to the functionality of DXO Pure Raw, Topaz, or Lightroom. Tethered studio shooters just don't care about these functions...
Here to add fuel to the fire. Comparable noise reduction to dxo, Lightroom, topaz, etc is undeniabley needed and proven by this thread. Going to spread the word to my following so they can come in here and keep the logs on the fire. Devs, we’re talking to you!
I got tired of waiting for C1 to do anything about this so I made my own free noise reduction app, so that we don't have to pay for yet another software
Sophon Denoise (link removed)
Like many here, I'm forced to use DxO for noise reduction. C1, please let me pay you to stay fully in your app...
People have been requesting improved noise reduction for years, and it has only reached the "Future Consideration" level. The decision-makers at C1 have devoted the vast majority of their resources to meeting the needs of professional and studio photographers, which I can understand, but in 2025, excellent NR is considered an essential feature of raw editing software. How much longer can C1 ignore this fact.
I do most of my noise reduction in DxO Photolab (DNG) or Topaz Photo (Tiff). Sometimes, I am tempted to dump C1 altogether and move all of my raw editing to DxO, whose output is very good, but I am sticking with C1 mainly because I love the user interface. How much longer I will hang on, I cannot say.
