What problem do you see this solving?
Capture One handles the process of HDR merging completely automatic with no user-interaction. Often the results are not very satisfying – the brightest parts of the merged images are often still too bright (e.g. windows in interior images), although the brightest parts of the "underexposed" source-images are perfectly lit.
I would like to have more control over the merging process by selecting, which one of the source images should be taken for the darkest parts, the mid parts and the bright parts of the final image. Furthermore I would like to have the ability to set the crossing-points, where the transition from one image to the next brighter one should happen and the ability, to set the steepness of this transition (a tool similar to the curve-tool may be suitable).
When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
Every time I merge images of interior photography where a window (or a door) is visible. So, nearly every day.
Current workaround
Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One? I have to brush extra masks over doors and windows to further reduce brightness of these parts of the images, but still, the results are not as good as the same parts in the source images which are correctly exposed for these bright areas. Having to go this extra step is time-consuming and could be avoided with a more sophisticated HDR merge tool. |
