Stacking/Grouping images

What problem do you see this solving?

Describe the problem or issue you are having in Capture One.

Think about what it is that you're trying to achieve, and the reason why you are trying to do it.

I have my camera set to shoot in both RAW & JPEG, and then I import these images into Capture One, where I create variants of the images as I'm processing them. This means that I have several instances of the same image. This means that if I'm culling and rating the images, I have to rate/cull each image individually or rate one then sync the metadata of the images that I've changed, and then load the metadata into those that haven't been changed. It's a very tedious process.

It would be really great to group/stack all of the images (raw, jpg and variants) and then be able to place the "favorite" on top of the stack. I'd also love to be able to stack/group HDR or focus stacked images into a group, instead of having sets of individual images.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

If your feedback is more general, simply let us know how much your workflow is affected.

I've been frustrated by the lack of stacking since I began using Capture One, going back to version 7 or 8.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

This is so we have a greater understanding of how your workflow is affected, and how we can improve the existing tools and functionality.

The workaround that I've been using is Photo Mechanic for culling and rating images, as it adds the metadata to both the jpg and the .xmp. The other work around is to Sync (jpgs) and Load (raw) Metadata.

It makes me upset that I just noticed that even another well known RAW converter will now also add the ability to stack/group images with his next big update in fall and C1 is still not able to do it. So there will soon be an additional alternative besides Lr if you need this feature. Sad.

Over a year now since this feature request was added (and the request is much older as can be found in the old C1 forum). With 107 votes one of the top feature requests here for C1 Pro. And still nothing has happened in regard to this request for over a year now. The status is still "Future consideration". Although C1 has some advantages over Lr, this missing feature made me move back to Lr about half a year ago. It makes me sad that C1 is not able or willing to implement this feature.

Not having the possibility to stack the pictures drives me crazy. In the past I often edited the wrong version of a picture. This is the only reason, why I'm not fully switching to C1 and why I wouldn't recommend it. The mistakes I did because of the missing feature cost me so much time and nerves

This is very importat to get, I do nowadays nearly all my retouching with AI after basic adjustment in CO, and that leads to multiple TIF files of the same file and handling those is hard without this stacking/grouping feature. using color tags helps but it is still not very practical.

I vote for this too. Additionally I'd like a way to identify the derivation of Catalog images both within and outside a stack so that its possible to know that image A is the parent of B and C and that image D is the child of B etc. I'm going to raise that as a separate feature request.

This is actually a very basic requirement and crucial for having a good workflow in most use cases for the software. PLEASE implement grouping / stacking

I support this request as I have the same issue Jeff Petry has. Thanks very much for bringing this up.

I'll echo this request. It remains the one thing I sorely miss from Lightroom, and seems such a basic function from a workflow pov.

After every release I email this request to C1.  Here we are, a new release and still no collapsing groups.  This would really improve workflow in a large way.

I support this request.. This has been asked many times.. In fact when HDR and Panoramic launched, this request was put across...

C1 should extend Cull, HDR and Panoramic tools for Stacking...

My vote for this. This is a feature the community asked for so often over the last couple of years. Is it realy that hard to implement? Instead we have dust removal with AI or face focus in culling mode ... I wished some of those smaller UI and worfklow polishing feature requests would also be considered and implemented. Especially if they are requested over and over again and seem to be technically possible (Lightroom can do it....so I am sure C1 could do it as well).

It would be helpfull for jpg + raw shooting but e.g. also if you edit some pictures in external software like Affinity and a separate tiff needs to be created. At the moment the tiff and the original raw are always treated as two separate images. It would be so great if we could group them together to one "stack". And ungroup them again later if we maybe no longer need the stack. Furthermore it would be great if we could group all pictures within an album with the same filename automatically (irrespecitve of file extension).

    Regards

    Juergen

Lightroom has a built-in feature to automatically stack images by the time interval between their capture time. In the right workflow it can save a lot fo time and tedium. I'd like to see this in C1
