Exporting albums to an external drive.

Which device are you using?

Ipad Pro M2

What problem do you see this solving?

As albums seem to be the default system for file handling in the mobile app it would be very useful to be able to export albums directly from the app to an external drive, currently, you can export albums to the cloud, (very slow and of no use to me personally unless there is a way to speed it up), but to export an album to an external drive you must select all the images and go through the multi-step export process creating a new folder etc, if there are no better ways of handling file transfers on the horizon please consider making one step album exports to external drives a priority.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

All the time.

Current workaround

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals?

I tried to implement an automated process suggested by another user, but it involves all sorts of technical stuff and it didn't work out for me.

No problem :) Unfortunately ReTether is not available for you (at least not yet) but switching between iPad and CO Pro should be easier in the near future when sync is available (adding my colleague 376674379118 who is leading this). Thanks again.

    Hi Evi

Thank you for your kind reply. I use a Fujifilm GFX100 (around 200mb pr file).

It sounds very interesting, however in our case it's a must that the client is involved, and are able to view the images during the process.

Looking forward to see what happens in the future :)

Thanks 11001389193245! What kind of camera(s) are you using? You might be able to use our upcoming sync in that situation or even take advantage of "ReTether" if you don't need the customer to follow along during the quick session and your camera is supported. Having said that, we will try to prioritise hdd support for mobile. I will update you as soon as I have more details on this.

    Hi Evi

I apologize if my formulation appears too hard. Language barrier, sorry.

I work with commercial and advertising photography. We use CaptureOne, with a dual screen setup mounted on a Adicam cart. Often there's a need to shoot a "quick" session in another room/location, or discuss the next upcoming angle/perspective. This is where the iPad/CaptureOne solution could be a lifesaver for us, as the client still needs to be able to follow along on the screen. It requires the option for us, to be able to come back and (quickly) load the images we shot into the hdd/session on the Mac that runs the campaign session. Working on many different locations/networks, we can't trust the cloud speed as, there's a chance it create some extra waiting time we simply can't afford.

    Hope this is helpfull :)

    /Rune

Thanks 11001389193245, I understand the need but for some is not as mandatory as it is for you. Can you share a few words about your workflow and how you would use the app if the support for hdd was available?

    Any update on this issue?

+ 1 on what Ira mentions. Even with other basic tools missing being implemented, this app falls through the basic need in professional use. Until there's a feature to (at least) transfer a session/album from the iPad, to an external hdd, it makes the app a no go :(

Great news Evi, for many people the cloud service is an ideal route to take but when on location I often find the only wifi service I have is via my phone, which has 5G but of course only if good reception is available in that area.

In the meantime I will be cancelling my subscription as the app falls a long way short of my base expectations, I may re subscribe when it is updated but that seems to be a long way off in the future.

Hello 370130542457, thanks for the feedback and thorough explanation. First of all, you are not alone in this. Many of our users have mentioned how cumbersome it is for them to transfer their work from mobile to computer. We are working on a sync solution that will address some of the problems and we will be investigating other venues too on how to optimise the process.

An example of a workflow I would like to have available in the app is:

Import files from card reader or tether.

    Place files in album

Check files for quality, composition etc and cull.

Apply basic edits for social media and clients proofs, additional edit tools I would like to use are curves, spot healing, gradients.

Export album with all remaining images in original raw format to portable ssd drive as a complete session ready to open in Capture One on my laptop/desktop.

    Thanks.
